Many of our members are off on the Battlefields Tour for 3 days on Monday.  We wish them 'bon voyage' on what we know will be a very informative and memorable trip.  Based around the town of Ypres and organised this time by Gloria, the group will have the opportunity to pay homage to some of the 1st World War 'fallen' from our village.   There are maximum 38 tourers this year and many more would liked to have joined them- so next year for them!

Still no winner of the Treasure Chest!!  The prize now stands at £350 with just 4 keys remaining.  Surely that is bound to attract a full house on Friday evening.

We are getting ourselves prepared for the Horsmonden Summer Festival at which your Club are again running the bars. Just to remind you it is:-

  • Themed Dinner Dance in the huge Marquee on the Green on Friday 7th June.
  • School Fete on the Green on the Saturday afternoon followed by the Music Festival  from early evening thru until late.
  • Family Church Service on Sunday morning followed by the build up to the huge Village Tea  Party.  Great band playing all afternoon, Classic Cars, Children's Entertainment. AND it is FREE!!

Before that on Saturday 1st June we have the latest Nostalgia Day being held  in our Club.  This one featuring Horsmonden School, Education and School Life. No doubt wonderful recollections will be aired.  Starts at 10am and continues until 5pm.  Themed  refreshments- does this mean School Dinners?   Well maybe but there is lunch available at 1pm  when the Dinner Bell rings and tea etc all day long.  Bring along simply anything you may have from the bygone days and reminisce.

Don't forget that we will be showing the FA Cup final on our huge screen on Saturday 18th May. We expect a good crowd of well behaved football fans. Bar open ,of course, and no doubt there will be refreshments – come and join the fun.
That evening we host the start and finish of the HoVec Roving Supper-perhaps the sale of tickets for the Grand Horsmonden Festival Draw will be launched that evening?

Now - the next FILM NIGHT is Thursday 16th.  We have asked a group of our regular attendees for their choice of film from those that we have  had requested. They have come up with:-

                   A PASSAGE to INDIA !!

Looking at the cast-Peggy Ashcroft, Judy Davis, James Fox, Alec Guinness, Nigel  Havers  and more  and the fact that it is based on E M Forster's  book -it simply must be excellent.   So it will start at 7.30 prompt with the bar open from 7pm. At present still only a £1 min donation expected but this may rise in future as we obtain more recent and popular films.

Seems ages since the last Men's Breakfast and people are missing their regular dose of black pudding!  Good news is that the next one is planned for Saturday 22nd June when we shall have a very interesting Speaker.  More details soon but get the date in your diaries.

IMPORTANT REMINDER - On Saturday 11 May, we are keen to remind you, it is the Horsmonden Litter Pick.  The day when we clean up our village ready for the Summer. The whole operation is based at our Club and friendly members of our WI will be on hand to offer refreshments to all those who come along and volunteer - arrive from 10.30am and get kitted out and be allotted an area to spruce up.  Let us try and make our village litter free, not just by our efforts on Saturday but all year long.

Further, as a Club ,we are great supporters of reducing the Village Footprint and have noted the initiative of St Margaret's Church in this respect.  They are holding a Nearly New Clothes at the Church on 25th May. This is 'recycling' -you can buy someone's nearly new old clothes for a song and make them your nearly new new clothes!  Maybe this will surpass the recent activity at the Tunbridge Wells charity shop? - you never know!
